87764 - Hydraulic Design and Optimization of Multistage Pumps
A seamless, intuitive workflow for Turbomachinery design, meshing, simulation, design exploration and optimization is applied for the hydraulic design and optimization for a three-stage vertical pump. It uses a bi-directional integration of CFturbo into Ansys Workbench.
At first initial hydraulic designs were made with the conceptual design software CFturbo, including all relevant details of the pump geometry. Then, high-fidelity CFD simulations have been carried out to get the baseline data for the optimization process.
In the next step, the bowl diffuser optimization will be demonstrated. Two different design exploration techniques and optimization workflows will be discussed, including model set-up, CFD simulation and post-processing.
Additionally, a multi-objective optimization has been done to improve the NPSHR of the entry stage impeller. In final simulations the optimized components were combined, running the full three-stage ump model.
